Dear Alumni and Friends of the MPI,
It is with great joy that I officially address you in the name of the new Executive Committee!
In May of this year, we celebrated the Institute’s 50th anniversary and looked back at an impressive history in the magnificent Munich Residence.
The Alumni-Association was founded (only) 10 years ago. A small idea born at a coffee shop table has grown into one of the strongest alumni-associations of all the Max Planck Institutes. In the meantime, the Association has almost 330 members und supporters from all continents, in universities and relevant institutions, courts, in large parts of the economy and attorneyship. Our annual meetings are a unique opportunity for exchange in the world of IP, competition and innovation, characterised by a highly interdisciplinary, academic content. A fantastic (interim) result!
Most importantly, we have to thank Gregor Schmid, who built up the Association with great commitment as its founding chairman. Gregor contributed valuably and, after the election at the last general assembly, passed on the chairmanship to me. Simultaneously, Alexander Bayer, who has also been an active board member since the beginning and not least promoted the digital presence of the Association, has passed on the vice-chairmanship to Federica Togo. We thank both founding members greatly!
I have been connected to the Institute since 2008, as a former Ph.D. student of Professor Drexl and his Ph.D. supervisor Professor Fikentscher. After working several years as a lawyer in an international corporate law firm, I am now a consultant at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin. Federica Togo was a scholarship holder of the Institute in 2007, obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2008 from the University of Florence, and is currently a German and Italian lawyer in Munich. Thankfully, two well-known and experienced committee members remain at our side – Martin Stier (Hamburg) and Matthias Bosch (Munich).
Together, as the Executive Committee, we would especially like to promote the exchange among our members also abroad, reanimate old friendships and discover new ones, and support the Institute in the best possible way, in particular regarding social events. To this extent, the Association has an exceptional international network at its disposal. We wish to further expand and strengthen this network, also at a regional level and thus offer all members an immediate additional benefit. Alongside the annual meeting, we wish to develop regional and international activities. Hence the first save-the-dates: On September 22, 2016 we will open the regional round with a northern meeting at the Monkey Bar in Bikini Berlin, on September 30, 2016, the second, southern get-together will take place in Munich. Planned for May 2017 is also an international meeting at the INTA in Barcelona. Details will follow.
I warmly invite you to come by and participate! Stay connected with us and the Institute, no matter where you are!
I look forward to contributing to the association and to the new times ahead “at the Institute” with you. See you in Berlin and/or Munich!
On behalf of the whole committee, kind regards,
