Conference Data as a Window to Scientific and Innovation Communities

Conferences play an important role in the formation, development and knowledge diffusion within scientific and innovation communities. Scientists regularly meet at conferences to share research results, gain visibility, find collaborators, and access to knowledge that potentially shape their future research and research trajectories. Moreover, conferences are an opportunity for firms to interact with the scientific communities relevant for their innovation strategies. On the basis of conference proceedings data in computer science and additional bibliographic data from Web of Science, this project aims at developing a database describing scientific conferences, capturing conferences series over time, their participants and main promoters. The data will be useful for empirical research addressing questions regarding the role of scientific conferences for individual scientists, firms and the development of scientific and innovation communities.
