Born in 1936 in Munich; 1958 to 1963 law studies at the Universities of Munich and Paris (Sorbonne); 1966 awarded doctoral degree by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München; 1967 Second German State Examination in Law in Munich; 1996 honorary doctoral degree of the Katholieke Universiteit van Brussel; since 1966 research assistant at the MPI (at the time MPI for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law); 1972 to 1978 head of division, 1978 to 2001 (retirement) head of research group (at the time Department of Copyright Law); expert for German, European and international copyright law as well as for intellectual property of Middle and Eastern European countries and the People's Republic of China; various books and periodical articles published in these fields.

2002: "Großes Verdienstkreuz" of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany

1998 to 2004: president of the German National Group of ALAI

1995 to 2001: visiting professor at the Renmin University of China, Peking

1982 to 2001: vice-president of the Association littéraire et artistique internationale – ALAI (Paris)

1993 to 1998: lecturer in copyright law and since 1998 honorary professor at the University of Passau

1982 to 1998: vice-president of the German National Group of ALAI

1991: Commander of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland
