Studied law at the universities of Muenster and Nijmegen, Netherlands (1993–1998). First German state examination in law (1998). Doctoral studies at the University of Muenster under supervision of Professor Thomas Hoeren (1998–2003). Research fellow at the Institute for Information, Telecommunication and Media Law, University of Muenster (2000-2003). Member of the Electronic Commerce Legal Issues Platform (ECLIP) project as well as the RESPECT project, both funded by the EU Commission (2000-2002). Award of Dr. iur. (equivalent to PhD) (2003). Trainee at the Muenster District Court (2003–2005). Second German state examination in law (2005). Lecturer in international trade law at the University of Leicester, United Kingdom (2005-2007). Visiting scholar on WTO-, international trade- and intellectual property law at Universities in Islamabad, Pakistan (2004-2005); Frankfurt, Germany (2007); and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011). Current teaching at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU), the Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre (MIPLC), the International Max Planck Research School for Competition and Innovation (IMPRS CI), and at the Centre for International Industrial Property Studies (CEIPI, Strasbourg). Since 2011 associate fellow at the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL, Montreal, Canada).
