Benedict Probst Joins TUM as Assistant Professor of Net Zero Policies

Today, Benedict Probst joined the Technical University of Munich (TUM) as an Assistant Professor of Net Zero Policies at the TUM Campus Straubing. Through the Max Planck@TUM program, he will continue to serve as Research Group Leader of the Net Zero Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition.

Alexander Braun, Vice-President of TUM, and Benedict Probst, Head of the Net Zero Lab and Assistant Professor of Net Zero Policies, with King Ludwig II of Bavaria, who founded the Technical University of Munich in 1868 to ‘bring the spark of science’ to industry and the economy.

Benedict Probst studies what moves the world towards net zero. His research covers three areas:

  • how entrepreneurs, companies, and governments develop and disseminate climate technologies;
  • whether corporate net-zero commitments lead to real emissions reductions; and
  • whether compliance and voluntary carbon markets operate with integrity and what impact they have.

Probst and his team combine novel data, such as millions of social media posts and corporate reports, with large language models and rigorous causal methods to measure the real-world impact of climate technologies and policies.
