Open Access Publications

Publishing via Open Access makes possible the publication of current research results for a large specialist public quickly and free of charge. The Max Planck Institute pursues a diverse strategy of Open Access. An essential part of this strategy is the publication of the e-journal, “Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition Research Paper Series” on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) platform.

In addition, preprints are published via Open Access in subject-specific series such as the IAB Discussion Paper series, the CEPR Discussion Papers series, the NBER Working Papers series as well as conference websites.

Furthermore, central contracts of the Max Planck Society offer authors of the Max Planck Institute the possibility to publish their work via Open Access. Of particular relevance are the agreements with the publishers Springer and Nomos. Within the framework of the “Springer Compact” agreement, articles by authors at the Institute may be published via Open Access in more than 1,900 Springer Open Choice journals through the free licence CC-BY. In 2017 the journal IIC was included in the group of Springer Open Choice journals.

The agreement with Nomos Publishing makes possible the publication of monographs via Open Access. The Institute publishes the series “Abhandlungen zum Urheber- und Kommunikationsrecht”, “Münchener Schriften zum Europäischen und Internationalen Kartellrecht” and the “Munich Intellectual Property Law Center – MIPLC”. Currently, more than 40 books are available via Open Access.

The “Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition Research Paper Series”, the Discussion Paper (SSRN) and the Nomos series books are listed below.

General information about the Open Access strategy can be found here.
