Boards
The Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition is the body where science and society meet. One of its important functions is to establish a trusting relationship between the Institute and the public. The Board of Trustees advises the Institute on matters of academic policy, economics and organization. For an institute of the Max Planck Society, the Academic Advisory Board represents the central instrument of academic evaluation.
It advises the institute’s directors, in particular with regard to its research program, performs a triannual evaluation of the institute’s research, and reports to the President of the Max Planck Society. Every six years, groups of Max Planck institutes with a similar specialization (e.g. all law institutes) undergo a comparative evaluation. This comprehensive and independent assessment of the institutes’ research activities ensures the appropriate allocation of the public funds made available to the Max Planck Society.
